And in severe cases like my dad's, it can cause heart attacks and strokes...

It wasn't any surprise that my dad wasn't healthy...

I mean, he's the kind of guy who would skip dinner to eat a box of cheese crackers.

And he wasn't exactly young, he was in his mid-sixties at the time.

But when my brother called me and told me that my dad couldn't go out into the sun anymore...

That he was gaining weight uncontrollably...

That he had rashes all over his body...

That the doctors were saying that he probably wouldn't live more than a few more years...

It kind of freaked me out.

You see, I was the kind of kid who could eat just about anything and never gain weight.

I remember eating entire boxes of spaghetti in a single sitting without even batting an eye...

I used to search out restaurants that had eating challenges. I would eat more than their challenge and ask them, "is that all?" - I actually got a lot of free food that way.

So when I started hitting my mid-20's and didn't have the metabolism that I used to, I began to have some problems...

I started gaining a bunch of weight and had a "tube" of fat around my waist.

I started getting sick pretty much ALL OF THE TIME... it got to the point where I was getting some kind of illness once every month or two.

I constantly felt tired and weak and I knew that there was something wrong with my diet.

But who wants to take the time to figure it all out?

I certainly didn't.

But when my brother called me and told me that my father was sick and dying and that the doctors thought that his diet was the main problem behind it and that he said he wouldn't change his diet...

I began envisioning my own future...

A future where I had been eating like crap for so long that I wouldn't change the way I eat to save my own life.

And I knew at that moment that I had to do something differently.

I went to nutritionists, dietitians, and personal trainers...

I read books, went to seminars, and tested every diet that I thought might make sense...

It took me about 4 years before I found a diet that really worked with my body and my lifestyle...

A diet where I could eat as much food as I want... delicious foods that I actually want to eat...

And not only did I lean out but I also rarely ever get sick anymore...

I don't have cravings...

I don't have to count my calories...

And my energy levels are stable and I feel amazing, most of the time.
