10 Signs Your Man is Going to Leave You

Are you just being paranoid? Or is it possible that your instincts are correct and something is wrong with this almost perfect relationship?

It happens a lot more often than we think. Two people fall in love, they live together, maybe they even get married. But over time, something changes. Attitudes change. Behavior changes. You start to notice things that at first don’t seem like a big deal, but that eventually cause a major rift between the two of you.

Maybe the problem is that some women notice too late. If you start to notice the signs as soon as they happen, as soon as there’s a small indicator, it’s possible you could talk things out.

What we’re going to do in this discussion is list ten signs that your man is likely to leave you, based on the testimonies of many women who “should have seen it coming”, in their own words. You’ll notice among these signs that each one involves a serious lack of empathy, suggesting something in the relationship has been broken.

1. He puts his own needs over yours.

When a man first falls for a woman his instincts are to put her needs over his own. He volunteers, he gives freely, and puts forth effort to chase her, court her, and become her boyfriend.

If he stops doing this, something drastic has happened and he has lost the joy of providing for her. Something happened.

2. Your sex life is going downhill – fast.

Sex is not just about sex. It’s about bonding together. It’s about increasing those wonderful love hormones and strengthening the trust between you. Unless there’s a major medical or psychological issue, sex should be just as important as saying I love you. If there’s nothing going on in the bedroom, this could be a bad sign.

3. He wants to hang around his friends more than you.

Men in love tend to spend more time with their families than their buds. Friends understand this and can give their dudebro some space whenever he needs it. But even his friends can tell, if he’d rather hang out with them all the time, something is not right at home.

4. He never consults you about important decisions.

He’s so “independent” he doesn’t even ask for your opinion or feelings anymore. He’s taking back “his life” at any cost, suggesting he feels a disconnection.

5. You seem to annoy him – and “trigger” him over every little thing.
Some guys are easily annoyed, so don’t overanalyze this one. But there’s a major difference between a man kvetching about music or food, and him insulting you, degrading you, complaining about you or that he has to provide for your needs. That’s the very reason why you got together in the first place – he wanted to provide for you. Something has gone wrong.

6. Even he admits you deserve someone better than him.

The whole “you deserve better than me” really gets old fast. If the guy really loves you, he should be willing to change – willing to be “that guy” that deserves you. If he makes no effort to change, he’s basically preparing you for a new relationship.

7. You never talk about anything deep anymore.

Conversation has not only stalled, it’s regressed back to a professional relationship. You don’t talk deep. You just negotiate with each other throughout the day. He feels completely alienated at this point, and it’s usually not your fault. If he can’t talk to you, he might be talking to someone else.

8. He doesn’t respect you anymore.

Respect is the thermometer of a relationship! If he has lost respect for you (and especially if he seemed to worship you in the beginning) a major personality shift has happened. Whether he’s a toxic guy or the relationship is just incompatible, the result is the same.

He will continue to devalue you until he’s ready to leave. A lack of respect is not just in name calling, or verbal/physical abuse, but also in neglecting you, or mocking you privately or publicly. It’s hard to trust someone that completely betrays you.

9. When you talk, the “future” is very hazy.

He no longer sees a future with you and so avoids the topic entirely, or gives little hints that no one knows what might happen in the future. If he doesn’t see you with him, he’s already given up on the relationship. Now, he’s just looking for an easy way out.

10. He refuses to compromise during arguments.

Perhaps a lack of empathy, or total emotional detachment, is the final sign of love grown cold. In fact, the energy he gives off can be downright hateful – and you can feel it, by the way he refuses to compromise, even if you’re in tears, and even if you have had lots of loving memories together. A man in love will always find a reason to keep the peace and help reestablish that trust.

Why Do Guys Leave?

In closing, it’s best not to focus on why it happens. Maybe you’re not compatible in the long-term, because of different life goals. Maybe he’s going through changes or has always been commitment-phobic. Whatever the case, as a protection, you should always react according to his energy.

If he backs away, follow his lead and back away. When you push in closer, going for more intimacy, you put him on the defensive, and start to chase him. That’s the dynamic you want to avoid. He must always see the value in you, and the joy of pursuing you. That keeps the attraction going and keeps his attention.

Don’t force him to be vulnerable or emotional. He will never respond well. Let him know that when he’s ready, you’ll be there for him.

But if he continually resists your affection, AND resists your efforts to let him be independent and recover by himself, then he has devalued you. He’s already decided he doesn’t want to work things out and that means it’s time to leave and find someone who appreciates you.
